Wedding Talk with Golda Goldstein

Q: I usually have to pee about once an hour. On my wedding day is there anything I can do to avoid constantly running to the bathroom without risking dehydration?

A: Well cookie, there are a couple of options. You can go the easy route and get the new bridal version of Depends undergarments. Honey these things work wonders!!! I use the old lady version. But if you want something a little more extreme you can try the Bridal Catheter!! It is decorated with its own lace garter!! Quite stylish under your bridal gown.

Q: Got any ideas on how to update a Champagne Punch?

A: Two Words -- Vodka!

TELL YOUR MAID SHE HAS TO DYE HER TRI-COLORED HAIR B4 WEDDING

  1. Tell her that EVERYTHING has to match including the bridesmaids hair, so she has to dye it red like the rest of the maids. The hair is red, the girls are white and the dresses are blue - very patriotic.
  2. Bluntly tell her you can’t have her ugly 1989 colored hair ruining your beautiful pictures that you are paying out the wazoo for!!!
  3. Tell her that the hair has to match the punch --- in case any hair falls in the punch

Bridesmaids & Flowergirl Department

TIPS FROM THE BRIDESMAIDS DEPARTMENT

  1. Remember that it is YOUR day & YOUR wedding!!
  2. When being measured for a maids dress don't worry if you go up a size or two, because bridesmaids sizing is very different from street clothes.
  3. Even though a bridesmaids gown looks great in the magazine, it may be totally different in person – don't be surprised.
  4. Give your Bridesmaids enough time to order their dresses because there is always one straggler, usually the grooms sister.
  5. Always remember to wear proper underwear when trying on gowns.
  6. Please please be careful when combining colors on 2 tone dresses – not all combo's look great when you get them in. At that point it is too late.
  7. Paint swatches are not good for matching bridesmaids dresses because they are for PAINT!

Bridal Shower Games Volume 1.

Marshmallow Wo(Men)

Jot down first and last names of about 20 actors and actresses. You will need a several bags of large marshmallows. Each person will get a chance. The player will be given the list of names, they will have to say a name the bride must be able to understand each name that is said. After each name that is called the player must insert a marshmallow and keep calling names from the list. The person that gets all the names called off understood wins. This was played at a shower, one girl had 17 marshmallows in her mouth. You can imagine how much fun we all had!

They're Playing Our Song

As each guest comes in, get them to write down the song from the first dance at their wedding and their name. If the person is not married, they can write down "the song" from their current relationship or can just pick their favorite love song. It's OK if people have the same song. Later, the hostess will read each song one by one and the guests will write down who they think that song matches up with. Make sure everyone is given a chance to think and analyze a bit before moving on to the next song. After all the songs have been read, the hostess will read the songs again and reveal who it belongs to. Guests get 1 point for each correct answer and 3 points is they guess the wedding song of the bride. The person with the most points wins. The hostess then gives the guest a small gift as a prize.

Top 6 Disasters to Avoid

Dry Cleaner Disasters

Never, never take your brand new gown to the dry cleaner before the wedding. Even the best dry cleaners occasionally melt faux pearls or dissolve real ones. About once or twice a year we hear from a bride whose gown was ruined by a dry cleaner who simply didn't do their job properly. If your gown has no crystals, pearls, or other decorative details on the bodice, having it dry-cleaned is much safer. We have never understood why anyone would dry-clean their gown...

Decorating at the Ceremony

  1. Focus your "wedding dollars" where they will get the most attention. For instance, when choosing flowers for the ceremony - focus on the altar because that is where your guests will focus their attention.
  2. If there is another wedding ceremony scheduled for the same day, ask your Officiant if you could contact the other bride and groom. Then, ask the other couple if they would be willing to share expenses for the ceremony flowers.
  3. Decorating every pew on both sides of the church? This can be very expensive. Try decorating every other pew or every 3rd pew. You can add some hurricane lamps. You can use ribbon and bows mixed with lots of greenery too.
  4. Or, think about skipping the pew decorations all together. They look lovely, but typically run between $6-$15 each or more depending on how elaborate they are. Then, you have to multiply that by twenty or more pews - Ouch!
  5. At the ceremony - use plenty of tall candelabras, which the church probably already has, and decorate with greenery. When those candles are burning, and showing off the greenery - Wow! It's beautiful.
  6. More brides today are doing without aisle runners. It’s not always easy to put down the runner properly and there have been a few instances where the runner has gotten caught up underneath a wedding dress!
  7. If you need to cut your flower bill...think about reducing the amount of flowers at the ceremony. Wedding ceremonies are usually less than an hour and the majority of your time will be spent at the reception.

25 Hot tips & Cool ideas from Brides Vol 2

  1. My mom took floral design classes at the local college a few years back and will do the flowers.
  2. For our centerpieces we bought porcelain angels to put in the center at for 1.99 ea. at Christmas time. We bought silk flowers at Michaels when they were on sale and spent about 100.00
  3. We had our church print our programs. They did it for free. Our only cost was the cost of the paper.
  4. I found that all-for-one-dollar theme stores can be a bride's best friend- I made the favors, the centerpieces, and the silk flowers (so that we could use them in our home to remind us of our special day every day!) Jo-Ann Fabrics clearance racks also offer a lot of options for flowers, etc.. Doing it myself was a nice reminder of how special it would be when all through - and it made me feel great to give our guests something that we'd invested ourselves in, as well.
  5. If you cannot afford a real caterer, hire friends to work in the kitchen and have a Dessert Reception. Make all of the desserts that you and relatives can and freeze a couple months beforehand. Don't worry, the desserts taste fine after defrosting. Try sweet breads, tarts, crepes, chocolate mousse, and different cheesecakes. We are having a whole meal of desserts! Cost? About $300.00 for 250 guests! Also, be sure to have fruit trays and even meat trays for those who cannot eat desserts. If you do this, indicate on the enclosure card "Dessert Reception" is following the ceremony, so they know not to expect a catered meal.
